What is PDF?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format developed by Adobe in 1992 (It was standardized as ISO 32000 in 2008).It presents documents, including text formatting and images in a manner independent of hardware and operating systems.PDF is based on the PostScript language. It also provides for encryption and digital signatures.

PostScript is a page description language, and allows to generate an image (requiring many resources...).It cantains standard features of programming languages such as if and loop statements (I have not had time to see how it works yet).

Adobe grants licenses for royalty-free use in the development of software that conforms to its PDF specification.Anyone may create applications that can read and write PDF files :)
